THE ROLE
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to support and promote workplace safety in our metal recovery processing facility in Lost Hills, California. This role is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Assist in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
- Support the implementation of safety training programs and onboarding for new employees
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety regulations
- Participate in incident investigations and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Maintain safety documentation, including SDSs, safety reports, and training records
- Assist with emergency response planning, drills, and first aid coordination
- Promote safety awareness through daily walkthroughs and toolbox talks
- Coordinate with supervisors and employees to identify and resolve safety concerns
- Support ergonomic assessments and workplace improvements
- Stay updated on federal and California-specific safety regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Internship or prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred
- Familiarity with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001) is a plus
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform patrols, and respond quickly to incidents
- Capability to lift and carry moderate weights as needed
- Security Guards may work in a variety of settings, including corporate offices, retail locations, construction sites, or events, often requiring shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
