THE ROLE

The Heavy Equipment Operator position is an entry level, full-time, hourly position located in Lost Hills. Heavy equipment may include excavators, front-end loaders, dozers, scrapers and other pieces of equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, front-end loaders, dozers, or scrapers for various construction and maintenance tasks
• Perform routine inspections of machinery to ensure proper functioning and report any issues to supervisors
• Load, unload, and transport materials to and from construction sites as directed
• Ensure safety protocols are followed while operating machinery, adhering to company and industry safety standards
• Assist in the preparation and clearing of construction sites, including moving dirt, debris, or other materials
• Work closely with supervisors and team members to complete tasks on time and according to project specifications
• Follow direction from experienced operators and senior staff to learn new skills and improve equipment handling
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, ensuring minimal environmental impact
• Document daily activities, equipment usage, and any issues encountered during operations
• Perform other related duties

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 0-3 years of experience operating front-end loaders, excavators, dozers, scrapers and other pieces of heavy equipment
• Workplace safety requirements and procedures
• Record keeping system
• Equipment cleaning standards and procedures
• Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Decision making skills
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
• Ability to read and write to record pickups and maintain daily records
• Time management
• Flexible and dependable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Environmental conditions – must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. The operator may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection
• Mental demands- conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue. This position entails working independently and maintaining a schedule of work.  Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time

• Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 25 to 50 pounds
• Climb on and around equipment and sit for long periods while operating equipment
• Walk and stand for long periods of time
• Able to climb a minimum of 2 story of stairs
