THE ROLE

This is a full time, non-exempt position that will be responsible for performing a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks on heavy machinery and equipment. With a solid foundation of mechanical expertise, the position involves diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues, as well as performing preventative maintenance and ensuring that all equipment is functioning at optimal performance levels.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Perform diagnostics on complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues using advanced tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Conduct repairs and overhauls on heavy equipment, including cranes and overhead hoists, load test machines, pumps and electric motors, and hydraulic rams
  • Inspect and evaluate equipment to identify signs of wear, malfunction, or damage, and recommend repairs or replacements
  • Perform routine maintenance on heavy machinery, such as changing fluids, filters, belts, hoses, and checking safety features
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems, utilizing schematics and wiring diagrams to resolve issues
  • Assist with major equipment overhauls and the replacement of large, heavy components
  • Ensure that all repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, minimizing equipment downtime and improving operational efficiency
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair logs, documenting all work performed on equipment
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other mechanics to coordinate repairs and schedules, ensuring that all work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Train and mentor entry-level mechanics by sharing technical knowledge and offering guidance in troubleshooting and repair techniques
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards by using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety procedures during all repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Stay updated with new equipment technologies and repair techniques to enhance job performance and ensure the latest standards in machinery repair
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in mechanics preferred
  • Proven experience as a mechanic, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and repair techniques
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Environmental conditions – Must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. May at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection
  • Mental demands- Conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue
  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 25 to 50 pounds
  • Climb on and around equipment and sit for long periods while operating equipment
  • Walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to climb a minimum of 2 story of stairs
