THE ROLE

The Mechanic I position is responsible for providing technical and administrative support while at HM Holloway, Lost Hills Logistics and Waste Facility location. This position is primarily responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the shop, trucking and landfill equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, motors, etc. on various pieces of equipment, both stationary and mobile
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust diesel power units, hydraulic systems, injection valves and systems, mold boards and on scrapers, bulldozers, haul trucks, excavators. May also inspect, adjust and repair gasoline power units
  • Lubricate and perform preventative maintenance of diesel equipment and gasoline power units
    including but not limited to installation, replace or adjust filters, belts or similar objects to maintain equipment
  • Diagnose defects of heavy-duty equipment and make necessary repairs or coordinate repairs with third-party mechanic upon approval
  • Weld and fabricate to repair mobile equipment and fixed assets (fences, gates, wash racks, etc.)
  • May perform duties as shift lead for the department in the absence of Supervisor
  • Coordinates with purchasing agent for ordering of parts and other required items
  • Operates heavy equipment as needed or assigned
  • Keep shop/working area safe, clean, and secure
  • Documents work orders and keeps record of repairs and maintenance performed
  • Ensure inventory levels are accurate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

At least 1-2 years of experience in the following:

  • Diesel experience is a plus
  • Skilled automotive mechanic
  • Experience with the care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work
  • Servicing equipment such as A/C recyclers, hydraulic jacks, or emission analyzers
  • Welding knowledge and field experience
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes
  • Must be able to work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in the English language
  • Proficient with Outlook and Microsoft Excel as well as manufacturer diagnosing software
  • Efficiency in reading, understanding, and applying information from charts, graphs and manuals

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Safety – the mechanic must know the hazards of the job and be trained in safety precautions of the trade. Must be able to communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Environmental conditions – will be required to work in all kinds of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Able to climb a minimum of 2 story of stairs.
  • Able to use hand tools in various positions and angles in a thrusting manner.
  • Able to work in the normal aspects of the waste facility, i.e., dusty, odorous environment
  • Work outside year-round in the different weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to work during night-time hours
  • The person must be self-motivated and safety conscious.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Pay: $20 – 23/hr
